Empowering Communities for Environmental Action
In spring 2024, I conducted lobbying work for Bishop Hill, Illinois, a town of a little over 100 people. Given a budget from the State of Illinois for only $40,000 per year, the town could barely repave roads, let alone think about sustainability.
After conducting research amongst 250 other small towns in the state, I learned that none of them could prioritize environmental solutions.
This inspired me to create a free e-book to help local communities with low-cost solutions at the edge of modern innovation. Let's move your community ahead instead of letting it fall behind.

My Story
Who am I?
I am Kate Wexell, a native of Shiloh, Illinois, a 15,000-person suburb outside St. Louis. Growing up, many of my family members lived in towns of less than 1,000 and worked in agriculture.
I earned my bachelor's in public administration and policy and have worked for eight environmental non-profits ranging from education to renewable energy policy to local journalism.
From 2021 to 2024, I ran an environmental education non-profit called The Compass Online which reached 20K+ people from 75+ countries and received recognition from the Jane Goodall Institute, Clinton Foundation, and G20 India.
